Love From The Sun

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

here is the soundtrack for your summer!

essential love songs towards the sun from the late 50s to now, starting off with nina simone’s beautiful version of ’summertime’ and closing with a hawaiian soul classic. a styleguides compilation not be missed!

this time’s bonus track is norman connor’s nearly astral jazz ode to the sun from 1974, not available on amazon and definitely in need of a proper reissue:

Cinematic 70s

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

styleguides goes cinematics again, this time with some great scores of 70s cinema worth remembering:

unfortunately, many of my favourite 70s scores aren’t available at amazon- even my perhaps favourite one is missing, jerry goldsmith’s masterpiece soundtrack for roman polanski’s neo-noir classic ‘chinatown’ with jack nickolson (1974):

Swing Allstars

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

of course a compilation series called styleguides has to start with classic swing gems – it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!
this first excursion mostly features american swing kings from late 50s to early 70s, with recordings ranging from intimate sessions to large big band recordings. as special bonus even elvis’ famous ‘laughing concert’ has been hidden inbetween the playlist. enjoy!

this time’s first bonus track unavailable on amazon is one of brigitte bardot’s ballerina swings:

second up is doris day’s simple but sweet ‘keep smilin’, keep laughing, be happy’:
