Reggae Soul ‘73-’77

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

reggae may be easy to reduce to a silly cliché, but it’s influence to hip hop, funk and soul music can’t be underestimated. no matter how lofi some of these 4-track tape recordings may be, reggae music brought some fantastic song writing and alot of creativity and inventiveness to the music world. reggae disco, dancehall and dub compilations will follow up on styleguides sometime later.

the bonus track is yet again a small music treasure not available on amazon and in need of a proper reissue, susan cadogan’s ‘nice and easy’ (trojan records 1975):

Swing Allstars

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

of course a compilation series called styleguides has to start with classic swing gems – it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!
this first excursion mostly features american swing kings from late 50s to early 70s, with recordings ranging from intimate sessions to large big band recordings. as special bonus even elvis’ famous ‘laughing concert’ has been hidden inbetween the playlist. enjoy!

this time’s first bonus track unavailable on amazon is one of brigitte bardot’s ballerina swings:

second up is doris day’s simple but sweet ‘keep smilin’, keep laughing, be happy’:
