COMPILATIONS WITH ennio morricone

Italian Horror Themes ‘73-’81

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

welcome to the first styleguide hommage to b-cinema and european trash movies, starting off with the hallucinatory surrealism of 70s italian horror films. there was a very thin line between trash and art in these films (to say the least), but many of their soundtracks are timeless and still set a standard for visionary cinema music today, establishing horror film music as an art form.

bonus video is a teaser for the soundtrack of ’suspiria’ (1977), dario argento’s arty gothic film with bizarre cinematography and a mystical powerhouse score by the soundtrack masters of italian horror, goblin. next styleguide cinema compilations will probably feature film noir or french 70s..

styleguides goes cinematics again, this time with some great scores of 70s cinema worth remembering:

unfortunately, many of my favourite 70s scores aren’t available at amazon- even my perhaps favourite one is missing, jerry goldsmith’s masterpiece soundtrack for roman polanski’s neo-noir classic ‘chinatown’ with jack nickolson (1974):
